Church Committee

The Church Committee has a number of members, including the Team Vicar, the two Team Wardens, a Secretary, a Treasurer and other representatives to the central PCC for the Parish as well as one representative to the Deanery Synod.  It meets once every two months to discuss matters effecting the church.

Each year the Church Committee year has an Away Day - an excellent opportunity for reflection and learning about Jesus Christ. Elections to the Church Committee are held annually in the Spring.

OS Mission

Martin Bone on Peru - Our Latin Link missionary, working with the Luke Society in villages close to Moyobamba, a town in the cloud forest region of the Peruvian Amazon. His work includes planning, coordinating and overseeing water supply and sanitation projects in the Mestizo and Aguaruna villages, as a part of an integrated community health and development programme. I also help organize bible distribution projects in the villages to enable villagers to receive easy-to-read Spanish bibles.
In addition, we are beginning an environmental mapping project, to help villagers map their plots of land and to plan how to use their land sustainably.

FUNDUKUPHILA
St Mark's supports - financially and through prayer - three foster families, who care for children orphaned, abandoned or placed with them  suffering from abuse, AIDS, alcohol or drug dependency inherited through their mothers, who are often under-age and abused .  Where they can, these children attend pre-school up to the age of 6.
Prestbury Pre-School (Fundukuphila) is run by the Prestbury Methodist Church, Pietermaritzburg, whose support group allocates much needed funds to the foster-parents.
They receive inadequate state funding, complicated by red tape, which does not meet the children's special needs.

We raise funds by collections,  hand made greetings cards, individual donations and specific events.
E
ach year about £2,000 is sent from St Mark's to the foster families which, is able to purchase substantially more than it would in the UK. The foster parents frequently remark that the money arrives at a very opportune time and they are able to purchase urgently needed provisions and medication - and provide a few treats for the children.
